Infant Dental Care

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that children should have their first dental visit by age one. It is critical that your infant receives the care needed for their emerging teeth.

Primary teeth typically come in, or “erupt,” around 6 months old. We realize your infant’s first dental visit can be nerve-wracking for you, but you can rest assured that at Carolina Dental care, as one of the preferred pediatric dental clinics in Aynor, SC, we have the experience and sensitivity necessary to ensure your infant’s first visit is safe, secure, and pain free.

Preventative Dental Care

Routine, regular dental check-ups are a fundamental and vital element of kid’s dental care. Carolina Dental Care’s preventive care helps to protect against tooth decay, including services such as standard cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants.

Ignoring tooth decay can lead to cavities and much more severe issues down the road that could cause your child added discomfort and pain, possibly even requiring more severe treatments like root canals or surgery.

Diagnosis of Dental and Medical Conditions

The first “regular” dental visit should be just after a child’s third birthday. For the first visit, our pediatric dentist usually ensures the visit is short and involves very little treatment.

During this visit, to make your child as comfortable as possible, we may ask you to hold your child while sitting in the dental chair for the examination.

We may also request you to wait in the reception area for a portion of the visit so the dentist can start to build a relationship with your child.

Preventative Dental Care for Your Child

Along with prevention and cleaning, regular visits permit our talented children’s dentists to monitor and asses your child’s ongoing dental health.

Our talented team is able to identify early signs of orthodontic concerns that could require bite improvement and teeth straightening. We can also detect oral conditions associated with diseases such as asthma, diabetes, hay fever and pediatric periodontal disease.

In addition to cleaning and prevention, regular visits allow our talented children’s dentists to assess and monitor your child’s ongoing dental health.

Our talented team can help identify early signs of orthodontic issues (that may require teeth straightening and bite improvement).

We can also discover oral conditions associated with diseases like diabetes, asthma, hay fever, and pediatric periodontal disease.

Cavity Prevention Tips for Children

The majority of the time, cavities are caused by a diet high in sugary foods and a lack of brushing. The other factors that causes a higher chance of getting cavities is the length of time it takes your child to chew their food as well as how long the residue stays on their teeth.

Keep in mind, baby teeth are very important to your child’s oral health.

They are not only important for holding a space for the permanent teeth, they are also extremely important for chewing, biting, speech and appearance.

For these reasons, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and daily hygiene for your children at any age.

Check out these tip on how you can help prevent cavaties:

  • Limit frequency of meals and snacks
  • Encourage brushing, flossing and rinsing
  • Watch what your child drinks
  • Avoid giving your child stick foods
  • Make treats part of the child’s meals
  • Choose nutritious snacks
